Recently, I went on a missions trip to Argentina and found Skype to be a friend away from home. Many people purchased inexpensive calling cards to communicate with their family members. I didn’t. In fact, I called everyone I needed to talked to for free. Before I left, I made sure all of my main contacts had installed Skype on their computers. They left Skype running on their computer and when I logged in, I called them (It makes a ringing sound on their speakers). I even video conferenced for free with a webcam. The only equipment you need to use skype is a microphone on your computer. You hear the persons voice through your speakers or headphones and vice versa.
In addition to the talk feature, I was able to broadcast the national convention to my Skype buddies via my webcam. We even broadcast the service live to our big screens at our home church via Skype. It was such a neat experience for our church to be live 3,000 miles away! Skype users can call each other for free. However, if you need to dial a regualar phone number, all you do is purchase Skype credits. Use their dialer right on your screen and call home for just two cents per minute! Stop paying huge cell phone bills when you return from your trips. Use Skype for cheap international calling! Skype even offers a WiFi phone so if you are near a wireless network, you can call other skype members for free or just dial a normal number for cheap rates. This is a great tool that is free!
